Privacy Policy

Summary: MeteoGrid does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. API keys and preferences are stored exclusively on your device. No account or registration is required to use the app.

1. Information we do not collect

MeteoGrid does not collect, process or store:

Your name, email address or any other personal identifiers
Location data beyond what is used locally on your device to find the nearest weather station
Device identifiers or advertising IDs
Usage analytics or behavioral data
Crash reports containing personal information

2. Information stored on your device only

The following data is stored locally in your device's secure storage and never transmitted to us:

AI provider API keys — keys for Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, Groq or Gemini that you enter in Settings
Favourite stations — the list of weather stations you have saved
Alarm rules — threshold alarm configurations and history
App preferences — language, theme, wind units, chart mode
Hardware license key — your Climabots hardware activation key (see section 4)

3. External services used by the app

The app contacts the following third-party services in normal operation. No personal data is sent to any of them.

Climabots Meteoportal API (meteoportal-api.ashybush-7de99fe7.westeurope.azurecontainerapps.io) — fetching live sensor data and measurements from your weather station. Requests contain only station and sensor identifiers.
AI provider APIs — contacted only when you actively use the AI chat feature, using the API key you supply. Weather station data you select as context is included in the request. Please refer to the respective providers' privacy policies: Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, Google.
Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — 7-day weather forecast based on your GPS coordinates. Open-Meteo is a free, open-source service. No API key or account is used.
SHMU (Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute) — public CAP 1.2 weather alert feed. No personal data is sent.
Mapbox — map tile rendering for the station map view. Mapbox may log tile requests per their privacy policy.

4. Hardware license key

If you have a Climabots hardware activation key, entering it in Settings sends the key to climabots.com over HTTPS to verify it is valid and mark it as activated. No personal information is associated with this request — only the key string itself.

When you remove the key from Settings, the app sends a release request to our server, which resets the key so it can be used again. This request contains only the key string.

5. Location permissions

The app may request device location permission to identify the nearest Climabots weather station to your position. Location data is used only within the app on your device and is never transmitted to any server.

6. Push notifications

If you enable threshold alarms, the app registers for push notifications via Expo's notification service. A push token is stored on your device. Notification delivery may route through Expo's infrastructure, but alarm rules and station data stay on your device.

7. Children's privacy

MeteoGrid is intended for users aged 13 and older due to the use of third-party AI API services. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version is always available at climabots.com/privacy. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
